About Kauhava

Kauhava is an industrial, business and service centre in the Ostrobothnia region in western Finland. Kauhava and its surroundings have the population of approximately 30 000.

Kauhava Air Force Base

The Kauhava Air Force Base is located on the northern outskirts of the town of Kauhava. The single runway is 2700 metres long and 60 metres wide.

PAR, VOR/DME and NDB approaches are available for runways 17 and 35, while runway 17 is also equipped for ILS precision approaches.

The base has a surveillance radar and has more than 8 000 landings a year, the majority of these being generated by operations of the TAW.

Training missions typically take Hawks to a distance of 15 – 50 NM from the airfield. However, remarkable larger training areas are used for GCI (Ground Controlled Intercept) supported flights. On cross-country navigation and low-level sorties, almost entire Finnish territory can be used.
