Glass Cockpit

Glass Cockpit Characteristics
The objective of the Glass Cockpit Modification is to improve the quality and efficiency of flight training by the installation of a new mission system in the Hawk. Furthermore, the need to convert from analogue cockpit to a digital cockpit prior to operational conversion on a modern front line fighter will be eliminated. To support these objectives, the glass cockpit avionics suite contains the following main features:
- New mission computer (MC)
- Head-up-display (HUD) and HUD repeater
- Up-front control panels (UFCP)
- Multi-function displays (MFD)
- Integrated navigation system, including VOR/ILS, DME, INS and GPS
- Data transfer system
- Digital video tape recorder (VTR)
The mission computer and data transfer systems enable pre-flight mission planning and post-flight debriefing activities.
The HUD symbology provides the aircrew with all critical flight and weapon system information sufficient to enable effective and safe aircraft control while manoeuvring to successful task completion or target engagement without having to bring the eyes back into the cockpit during critical mission segments.

The video tape recorder enables source selection from among the front cockpit MFD, rear cockpit MFD or HUD. The built-in no drop scoring (NDS) training system provides on-demand representative targeting, simulated weapons steering solutions, release cues, employment and scoring assessment to conduct pilot training and to enhance pilot proficiency.
